In August, we decided to book a last minute trip to Jamaica for the last few days of the year. We knew that we wanted to spend those last few days somewhere tropical and warm! Heather and I would both be the first to tell you that we are not huge resort people. However, we were stoked with the experience we had at the resort we chose. This trip was a lot less adventure focused and more on the relaxation side, mainly due to the fact that Jamaica is currently under a level 3 travel advisory. However, that didn’t stop us from having a great trip!
Due to our limited time and electing to be a little more relaxed, we decided to stay at the Princess Senses the Mangrove resort. We flew in and out of Montego Bay International Airport, using an included transportation to our resort. We kept things super basic and stayed at the resort, electing to not take any excursions. One quick thing to note is that our expense totals are based on two people.
So now you’re probably wondering, how much did it actually cost to travel to Jamaica and back? Let’s get into it.
The purpose of this trip was to relax, enjoy some much needed downtime and soak up some Caribbean sun! We were able to save a lot on our flights due to cash back rewards that paid for almost the entire flight costs. Because the resort was all inclusive we did not have to spend any money on food. This allowed us to focus on not spending any additional money while still enjoying ourselves.
Before flying out we based our flights out of Atlanta to get the best deal to Jamaica. We stayed one night at the Hilton Atlanta Airport Hotel for our very early flight out. Once in Jamaica, we spent all 4 nights/5 days at our resort, Princess Senses the Mangrove. This resort just opened November 1st, 2024 and we loved it! There are 7 different restaurants, 2 buffets, lunch spots, snack bars and pool side bars. The resort is situated between Lucea and Negril, with about an hour bus ride from the Montego Bay Airport. For reference, we booked the swim out deluxe junior suite. This resort will easily go up in price in the future, as many of the resorts around are at least $850/night. We paid $500/night + taxes.
Total Accommodation Expenses: $2,576.53
We spent a grand total of $0 in additional transportation this trip outside of the remaining balance for flights. Our resort shuttle was included in the price and our excursion included transportation as well. This was by far the biggest win of our trip.
Total Transportation Expenses: $267 (Flight taxes/fees)
Food is always a unique item for us because we are both Gluten Intolerant AND dairy free. When traveling abroad, this can be a little tough but the resort had so many options! They worked with our allergies and were able to make plenty of foods for us. Because our resort was all inclusive, that meant we didn’t have to pay for anything, including coffees or cocktails. The only money we spent on food was in the airport.
Total Food and Beverage Expenses: $50
While there are numerous things to do and see in Jamaica, we opted to relax and enjoy everything the resort had to offer.. There were numerous excursions we could have chosen from but due to the short trip turn around – we decided to just enjoy the resort, sun and drinks.
Total Activities Expenses: $0
For two people, 1 night in Atlanta and 5 days at an all inclusive resort and round trip flights – we felt like we were able to experience the tropical weather and beautiful beaches of Jamaica at a reasonable price. Due to the fact that we were able to hack our flights for 74% off made it that much more affordable. This would have easily added an additional $1,000 to our trip total, making it not worth the short round trip. For two people, this trip came out to a total of $482.25 per day or $241.13 a person per day.
Total Trip Expenses: $2,893.53
